A big event

Cris & Felipe

Today I’ll take that Felipe is still sleeping and that my anxiety wakes me up at 6 in the morning, even on a rainy Sunday, to tell you something. Many of you already know it, and who’s read the page “Cris&Felipe” down to the end has probably noticed already.

The Brazilian part of this trip is a very important part. Not only because we miss a lot our country, families, friends and everything else. But also because at the end of two months there, it will be our wedding.

The idea of doing all this now began during Christmas last year, when we realized how we miss our loved ones and decided that for next Christmas we would be in Brazil. It will be the perfect opportunity for the wedding. When we come back to New Zealand next year we want to live in a house only both of us (no flatmates) and start a new life. Moreover, it will be wonderful to reunite families and friends after spending so much time away, and also because we don’t know when we’ll return to Brazil, with time enough to make this.

It was a few days before we went to Samoa. There was no celebration or engagement ring, but there was a video conference with my parents via MSN that was pretty emotional. Then it was my turn to ask permission to Felipe’s mom. I’ve never dreamed to marry like most girls, but suddenly I was sure, I was willing to celebrate, and I did the proposal. Each conversation with our families, was like a click inside and I thought “so it’s true, we will really get married!”. And the butterflies in my stomach were getting more and more intense.

It’s not very easy to organize a wedding remotely, and in 34 days we are going to travel, what will make it almost impossible. So I only need to thank my super-mom!! She’s been seeing everything for me there, while I cannot think of anything else other than the journey that is coming.

As we also are in a more-than-tight budget and we prefer to have something very simple, there are not too many things to organize. The wedding will be during the day, in some little farm near Curitiba that we are still not sure which, because we had booked one and now the owner decided to sell it and cancelled everything. I hope to find the bands and the dress during the trip, as we’ll pass by a lot of countries that have cool stuff and cheaper than New Zealand. The rest of the arrangements we’ll be doing slowly, we have 6 months until then, and 2 months to rush in Brazil until the big day.

I am a bit awkward with these things, guys… this glamourous world of weddings has nothing to do with me and I’m still trying to figure out what actually has something to do with me… so wish me luck!
I am also accepting tips and advises. Has anyone here ever got married during a trip?

Let me be the first to congratulate you both and tell you how happy I am to hear this news. Although I’ve only followed you for a short time, I can tell that you two are amazing people!

What makes me extra happy to read this post is that I feel like I’ve found a kindred spirit in some way. John and I also got engaged while on the road and we too are returning home for Christmas for the first time in six years and we’ll be getting married while we’re home as well. I totally understand what it’s like to plan a wedding while living abroad. My Mom and sister are also giving me a lot of help with our wedding preparations and I don’t know what I’d do without them.

I’m sure that everything will be exactly the way you want it. Congratulations again Cris and Felipe!

  2. Cris,

Congratulations! Try not to stress about it (though I know that’s hard). In the end, what matters most is not the band, the food, the cake, or the dress. What matters is that you’re celebrating your love surrounded by people who care about you. My favorite thing about my wedding was having so many friends and family in one place at one time. Enjoy that, enjoy each other, and let all the other little details go.

@Carrie – thanks for your comment and for the compliment. Wow! Congratulations you two!! It’s soooo nice to know there is someone like us in the world!! If I weren’t with all my flights arranged, I’d book one of them to Taiwan only to meet you!
    6 years?? You’re a heroine!

    @Matt – thanks, I appreciate that. :)

@Theresa – you totally understand me! This was the first thing I told my mom when we started planning and doing a “to-do list”.. I don’t really want all these details.. I’d like a wedding with more soul and less appearance, if you know what I mean, and if this is possible nowadays. Sometimes I even think I am less stressed than I should be! I still have so much to do.. but I never start doing it … I’m sure it will be all right.

Aeee viva o amor!! Mas hoje viva você!!! Feliz aniversário, Dea!!!

  3. Hi, No sorry, canned dog food is not good dog food period! Please think for a minute what waste food goes through to get in that can-Over boiled to mush, spoiled/rejected and unsuitable ingredients, up to 29 chemicals added to enhance, flavor, preserve plus synthetic vits/minerals (useless), it’s like 24/7 bad fast food. Your dog wants and needs some FRESH meat on the bone goodness that feeds his system, nourishes it, fixes it and makes him feel good every day.
